Research centres and laboratories

LAKE GENEVA REGION accommodates high-tech competences in matters of basic and applied research. In this fields, the region preserves the links that exist between the Swiss and international entities, notably in teaching matters, thus assuring rich and fertile exchanges.

In the cantonal universities, in the Federal Poly-technical Institution of Lausanne (EPFL) and in multiple other centres or laboratories of LAKE GENEVA REGION, the fields of research are vast. Thanks to the bilateral agreements between the Swiss government and the neighbouring European countries, or even more remote ones, the exchange programmes between researchers are definitely numerous and allow a seething of competences. Thus, Switzerland ranks first in the rate of mentions by publication (1.70), a significant measure of the nations’ scientific impact. At the same time, in its degree of consideration by scientific publications, Switzerland positions itself:

• in the 1st place in matters of : biology/biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, ecology/environmental sciences, materials science
• in the 2nd place in matters of: molecular/genetic biology, physics, multi-disciplinary fields
• in the 3rd place in matters of: chemistry, engineering sciences

In these research centres or laboratories, that count among the more prestigious ones of the planet (according to the international scientific magazine Nature, Switzerland leads the  classification of 31 nations that produce 98 % of the worldwide scientific research), all the science and technology branches feed the most exclusive enterprises that are fond of competition and innovation, such as:
